ClearanceJobs was founded by Evan and Rachel Lesser in 2002 as a direct response to 9/11. With more people stepping up, volunteering, and re-enlisting in the service, the Lessers knew there would be a big need for people in national security in the coming years, but they also knew from prior roles in government that finding and hiring cleared professionals was a huge challenge and potential roadblock to security progress. There wasn’t a cleared marketplace in 2001, so they decided to create one.
The overall mission of connecting employees and cleared professionals hasn’t changed. Our sole focus is still on how to improve U.S. security, but over the years, we’ve come to understand that while national security is a big concept – it involves a lot of individuals. It’s really about the people, and for every person we help in their careers, national security gets that much better.
Along the way, we’ve grown. From our humble beginnings as a husband and wife team working at our kitchen table, we’ve blossomed into a large team of fun, talented, and committed individuals.
